Photocopying
Folder and box labeling
Labeling and plating books
Shelving
Shelfreading
Filing
Light typing/word processing, data entry, typing/receiving e-mail messages
Answering telephones
Sorting/distributing mail
Making deliveries
Circulation desk duties to include:
Scanning images/texts (i.e., scanning photographs and NOT putting them on the WEB or manipulating them in other software)
- checking out/recalling/discharging library materials
- answering routine questions according to established guidelines
- relocating missing books
- paging books
- making appropriate referrals
Student Assistant II
Bibliographic searching in library databases with
complete, supplied source information
Catalog Record Maintenance which includes correcting on-line holdings/bibliographic
information, adding copies/volumes to on-line records and re-linking holdings
Circulation desk duties to include the duties outlined above as well as:
Entering information and maintaining WEB pages using an editor (requires using FTP and Telnet)
- creating provisional circulation records
- answering less routine questions with established guidelines
Student Assistant III
Bibliographic searching/verifying in the library
databases with incomplete information or source material
Assisting with WEB page development using HTML or other encoding skills
Maintaining WEB pages using HTML or other encoding skills
Student Assistant IV
Responsible for the library during evening/weekend
hours; provides work direction to other students and handles emergencies; opens
and/or closes library
Assisting with the installation of microcomputer hardware/software
Troubleshooting and solving computer problems for users
Subject/research/editorial/etc. expertise to:
Student Assistant Premium Positions ($10/hour)
- providing information services (not reference service)
- creating user education materials
- compiling bibliographies
- preparing exhibition catalogs or other publications
Creating/Designing WEB pages using HTML
or other encoding skills
